worldwide recognition for their work as well as an opportunity to help shape
national and global policy and practice in the field. </span><span

Assim, damos inicio à quarta rodada do internacionalmente aclamado
Prêmio Equator. Concedido bienalmente, o Prêmio Equator homenageia as
iniciativas com base nas comunidades que promovem, na região equatorial,
extraordinárias realizações na redução da pobreza e na conservação da
biodiversidade. Os vencedores do prêmio ganham não só reconhecimento
internacional pelos seus trabalhos como também têm a oportunidade de ajudar a criar
políticas e práticas no âmbito nacional e global.</span><span style='font-size:
10.0pt'><o:p></o:p></span></p>

cinco organizações serão agraciadas com o Prêmio Equator 2008 e receberão cinco
mil dólares cada. Cinco dessas comunidades receberão homenagem especial e mais
quinze mil dólares. As homenagens especiais serão feitas da seguinte forma:
cada uma das regiões elegíveis (África, Ásia e o Pacifico, América Latina e o
Caribe) receberá uma homenagem; outra será feita à iniciativa que melhor
exemplifique a abordagem da comunidade na adaptação às mudanças climáticas e
mais uma para a iniciativa que melhor exemplifique a conservação da
biodiversidade agrícola. A solenidade de entrega do Prêmio Equator será em
Outubro de 2008, em Barcelona, Espanha, durante o Congresso Mundial da
Conservação – IUCN (IUCN World Conservation Congress).Todos os vencedores terão
a oportunidade de expor seus trabalhos no Espaço do Diálogo “Poble” do
Congresso. </span><o:p></o:p></p>
